Sisterhood

I think sisterhood is a special relationship that can be biological and/or a kindred spirit. I have a very special sister-in law that we call each other ‘sista’ as we have been a kindred spirit for many years. Fibre artist are kindred spirits as we work with woolen materials in various ways. From the very beginning in 2006, when I learned how to rug hook, the rug hookers embraced me into their community of like minded folks with the love of rug hooking. It really is the people you choose to spend time with that matter and I am so blessed to have found this community and craft.

Last year for the first time, I went on a fibre art retreat. When you walk into a room of fibre artist doing what they love, the energy is electrifying. Everything from rug hooking, spinning, knitting, felting, weaving, stitching and I’m sure more I have forgotten to mention.

Sisterhood Fibres had their 3rd annual Fibre Retreat event in Debert, Nova Scotia this weekend. Last year I had purchased roving and a Turkish drop spindle to spin my own yarn. I had watched a short demo of how to do it and thought this would be something I might like to do. Did I do anything with it? No! This year I brought it with me determined to learn. Throughout the weekend there are demos/talks about various fibre art techniques in addition to a market. I learned to drop spindle and purchased more roving!  Below is my first attempt at drop spinning, it can only get better from here.

A picture of the wonderful group this weekend.

I won, one of the door prizes this weekend.  Hand made by Doris-Ann Savoie, a lovely hand woven basket and an emotional support chicken that she knit.  I was told by another knitter at the retreat, as she was knitting an emotional support chicken, it is the 'in' thing now. Who would have known? My support chicken hung out with Periwinkle's Rooster for a bit on the weekend.

My granddaughter Sophie and I spent some time together the past two weeks waiting for her baby sister Alina to arrive. Sophie coloured a snowman and I decided it would be awesome to mini punch it to match her picture.  Sophie choose all of the Valdani perle cotton threads to be used.

In the mail this week; Karen Pond finished up this pattern by Della’s Rug Hooking. Thanks for sharing Karen.

We have a new addition to the family, my granddaughter Alina was born this week. We love her to pieces.

Have a great week everyone!
